About BEDO
NGO sector has been playing a significant and effective role to uplift the socio-economic and cultural status of the people since independence of Bangladesh. Now it is an established fact that governmental efforts are not enough to develop the country unless non-governmental efforts are working side by side. Keeping this in mind, a group of social activists under the leadership of Md. Abdul Bari, a Class-1 Marine Engineer, founded BEDO as a non-govt. voluntary development organization in 1993. BEDO started its journey through undertaking different development programs simultaneously at Naogaon and Dhaka city in 1994.
Since inception BEDO has been implementing different development programs with the financial assistance of various donor agencies. At present, the major program of BEDO is poverty alleviation of the poor and ultra-poor people of its working areas. Other programs include social mobilization, healthcare service, prevention of HIV/AIDS and training on social issues, IGAs and agriculture.
