Documentary Drama Production on Micro-Credit Program

In order to raising awareness among the ultra poor people especially beggars, BEDO produced a documentary drama on micro-credit titled was “NO MORE BEGGING” in October 2007. The main theme of the drama was to motivate the beggars, so that they stop begging and engage in income generating activities with the help of Micro credit. The drama was written and directed by Md. Abdul Bari, Executive Director, BEDO. The shooting of the drama was taken place in Naogaon.
Micro Credit Fair

PKSF organized a Micro Credit Fair at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center from 25 April to 29 April 2008. The main objective of organizing the fair was to promote marketing of products of the micro credit borrowers and enhance public awareness about the micro credit program at all level. The Finance Advisor of Govt. of Bangladesh Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam inaugurated the fair. BEDO took a stall at the fair and decorated it with the different products of micro credit borrowers of Naogaon. The stall was able to draw attraction of the organizers and general spectators of the fair who appreciated very much about the quality and variety of the products. The Chief Advisor Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed was present as Chief Guest at the concluding function of the fair. It should be mentioned that BEDO participated Micro Credit Fair organized by PKSF in 2007. 
 
 
Study Visit Program to Vietnam

At the invitation of Asian Institute of Development Studies Inc. of Vietnam, the apex financial organization of Bangladesh Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) organized an exposure cum study visit program to Vietnam from December 5 to December 19, 2007. Two PKSF high officials and twelve Executive Directors of different partner organizations including Executive Director of BEDO participated in the study visit program. It should be mentioned that all expenses of the visit program were borne by PKSF.

The Team arrived in Hochiminh City on 6th December. On the next day they were taken to Hanoi Agricultural University. They visited garden-pond-livestock breeding facility development center, where they saw how the farmers are being provided technical assistance from the center.

The team was also taken to Dong Anh District to visit Planning, Economics of Rural Department of the district. They were briefed on the role of the department to support farmers. They also visited cluster of farmers engaged in chicken production in the district. The team also visited

-- Agro-forestry University at Nguyen province to see how the university is giving support to the farmers on agro-forestry system.
- Vietnam Farm Union to see the role of the Union in helping farmers as well as microfinance activities.
- Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to see how the bank is providing microfinance support to the poor.
- Can Tho University to see the university’s rural development research activities.
- Can Tho province to see how the farmers engaged in rice production and garden farming.

In the afternoon of 17th December closing ceremony was held and the members of the team were distributed certificates.  


Human Chain Against Smoking In Public Places

BEDO, BRCT, Manab Unnayan Sangstha and Sonar Bangla Bastobayan Foundation jointly formed a human chain in front of National Press Club Dhaka against smoking in public places on 6 January 2011. The speakers of these organizations said that smoking in the public places was not stopped, rather increased alarmingly. As a result non smokers including children and women are being victims of hazardous effect of smoking. They also said that existing Tobacco Control Law is defective, because restaurant, saloon, working places, non govt. organizations and industries were not declared as public places. The speakers called upon the Govt. to enact new law in this regard and to stop smoking in the public places. Most of the national dailies covered the news with photographs in a befitting manner.
